Islam in Africa

Since Ramadan has started I have heard the muslim call to prayer several times. The call to prayer is heard across Africa. It is heart wrenching to be woken up and then to lay there and think of the spiritual bondage these people are in. Even more heart breaking is the thoughts about the Africans that are converting. The majority of the people who convert do so for financial or educational reasons. The Muslims come into their towns and build a school and then say that their kids can come for free if they convert to Islam. The desire for education in Africa is so strong that they have a 80% conversion rate doing this. Then after the kids are attending school for 6 months and after they have converted to Islam they say that they must start paying. There are so many lies. The other way Muslims get converts is through employment. The unemployment rate in Africa is so high that the need for jobs is crucial. Muslims start businesses and then tell people they will hire them if they convert to Islam. The people in most situations need the job so bad that they convert.


As I think about the problems here in Africa I am overwhelmed. The humanitarian needs are so great for orphans, AIDS/HIV victims, and the shortage of water. On top of that is all of the spiritual warfare. Islam is obviously a huge threat. Most people in the USA have no idea how much of Africa is being influenced by Islam. The front line of the war between Christianity and Islam is right here in Africa. One of the recent meetings at the UN security council made a statement saying that they believe that Muslims were trying to take over the whole of Sudan and convert it to Islam so that they could get to Uganda. They believe that Uganda is the gateway to spreading Islam through the rest of Africa. Its so crazy that we never hear about these things in the US. Its so critical for Christians to get involved with strengthening the Christians in Africa and also evangelizing the Muslims.
