Kenya: Nairobi

We made it to Nairobi. We had a great flight and we didn't have any problems getting into the country. We we're so surprised to find out when we got here that 3 people from CCV were here. Mike Long, Elaine Lucas, and Danielle our new missions director. It was so fun to spend a couple of days with them while they were here


We even got to go on Safari with Marisa and Elaine. It was so much fun. We saw giraffes, zebras, gazelle, buffallo, crocs, turtles, and tons of different kinds of birds. We also go to go to a place where we could feed the giraffes. Jason put a pellet of food between his lips and let the giraffe lick it off his face. It was pretty grose. Feeding the giraffes by hand was a lot of fun though.




We were able to visit the Slum where CCV is working yesterday and today we went to church there as well. It's a very poor place so I only used the camera in the Car but the people seem really nice and all the kids kept saying, "How ar u?" as we passed each group of kids. CCV really has an amazing ministry here because they take care of kids without taking them away from their families. Here when a kid is orphined another family member takes care of them. So what CCV is doing is providing extra help for the families in the slum that need it. It's really a great idea and is working well and has very good oversight.


There is an entire team of Kenyans visiting the families and verifying that each kid is going to church, school and getting the basic needs met. CCV requires that the kids be in school but some of the kids aren't allowed to go to school because they are so behind so they stated a special school to catch up the students that are behind!


We plan to be in Kenya for about 3 weeks total. We are hoping to visit Calvary Chapel in Uganda in about a week. That is of course provided that we hear back from them and its a good time for us to visit. So we will see. We also found out that we can take a bus from Nairobi, Kenya to Nampula, Mozambique going through Tanznaia. It will take almost a week but it is bound to be a good adventure. We are staying at a mission guest house and were able to talk with a missionary who recently made that trip. He said that Tanzania is actually a pretty safe country and he has people we can meet up with Dar Es Salam and on the border of Tanzania and Mozambique. God is so amazing how he brings people along our path. We also found out that we will be able to take a bus from Nampula, Mozambique to Jo,burg, South Africa when we leave Mozambique. So it seems like we will be taking a lot of buses. It will definately help us cut down on the costs though. The plane tickets are pretty expensive here in Africa.
