Italy: Venice

We left Rome yesterday and made it to Venice yesterday afternoon. We had heard so many horrible things about Venice: Hot, Smelly, Dirty, Grafitti, Repairs everywhere... So we were pleasantly suprised to find it as charming and romantic as we had always imagined. It really is amazing. There are no cars anywhere in the city and everything: Taxis, Busses, etc. are all boats! There are the famous Gondolas but they are $130/40 minutes. We decided the Bus will be just fine at $5 each round trip! The weather is much cooler here since it's a seaside port city.

Our hotel is great but we were scared when we arrived in Venice and they told us we missed our stop and our Hotel was actually one stop back on the train. After getting to the right stop which isn't even in Venice but on the mainland the Phone Number to the hotel didn't work so we were beginning to wonder if the hotel even existed! Finally a nice lady at the Best Western helped us with a map. It's actually only 5 minutes from the train station! They have AC and a free breakfast so we love it!

We splurged last night for the first time too! I bought Coralee a Rose and we ate by candlelight in an open air plaza at a pizziaria! It was really good but after we got the bill decided that once was enough for a while. Now we're sticking to the cheap places again!

We're having trouble uploading Photos to our Blog but have added a few more to Flickr (see link to the Rt.) Hopefully we'll figure it out soon but since Internet is super expensive for the next week it may take a while. It is $12/hour!

We are leaving for Austria tomorrow and will be in Vienna for Coralee's Birthday on Aug. 4th! After that we go to Budapest and Prague!
